Home – SASA lead & zinc mine

For the fourth consecutive year, Sasa Mine, through Sasa Mine Foundation, is proud to announce its Children’s art competition on the theme: “The Mine and the Town – Through Time and Imagination.”

The key novelty of this year’s competition is that, instead of being submitted to Sasa, children will create their artworks during creative workshops led by a local artist – art teacher.
This way, children will have the opportunity to freely discover and express their talent and creativity, conveying their emotional connection to the environment in which they grow up and their own dreams for the future.

Who can participate?

All children aged 5 to 15 who live in the Municipality of Makedonska Kamenica, including children of Sasa Mine employees within the age group.

Themes and guidelines for creating the drawings

  • Children are encouraged to create drawings inspired by:
    • How the mine or the town looked in the past;
    • How they experience it today; or
    • How they imagine it in the future – whether realistic or imaginative.
  • Drawing size: A4 format (technique of choice)
  • Optional: a short description (1–2 sentences) explaining the idea behind the artwork.
  • Location: The drawings will be created at the Sasa Mine Training Centre, next to the Community Office in Makedonska Kamenica, at the organised workshops led by the local artist. By attending one of the workshops, the child and their parent/guardian automatically give consent for the drawing to be used by the Foundation and Sasa Mine for promotional and community purposes.

Timeline

  • Application for participation: until 5 November 2025 (Applications should be submitted by e-mail to a.pavlova@sasa.com.mk or by phone on 071/334-922. To complete the registration, the following information is required: the child’s full name, age, the parent/guardian’s full name, and phone number.)
  • Art workshops: 8 and 15 November 2025 (A maximum of 20 participants per workshop; additional sessions will be organised depending on the number of applications)
  • Selection of the best drawings: by 21 November 2025
  • Final event and award ceremony: during the first week of December 2025.

Awards

A special committee composed of independent external members will select the best drawings that, in the opinion of the committee, best reflect the connection between the mine, the town and the community.

Each winner will be rewarded with a prize of 3,000 denars and all participants will receive symbolic gifts.

The most successful drawings will be featured in the Sasa Mine 2026 Calendar and other appropriate publications.
